Getting started with TestFlight

I am writing this blog post to help someone get started as an iOS app testers.

In particular, I want to help people who are testing my apps and have never used TestFlight before. The first time you are a tester can be confusing because there are several steps in several different apps.

Step 1: Receiving the email

When a developer wants to add you as a tester, the developer enters your email into an Apple site for testing. Apple will send you an invite. You will receive an email from the user “TestFlight”. (See image below)

Tap on “View in TestFlight”

In Mail: Viewing testing invite in your email

Step 2: Getting prompted to install TestFlight

If you haven’t installed Apple’s TestFlight app before, Safari will open, and you will see the page below.

Tap on “TestFlight from the App Store”.

You can ignore the funny string of characters

In Safari: Safari page with a link to install TestFlight

Step 3: Install TestFlight

You should now be the the “App Store” app with a page showing TestFlight. (See image below)

Tap “Get”

In App Store: Viewing page to get TestFlight app

Step 4: Return to email invite

Once TestFlight has been installed, return to the email invitation.

Again, tap on “View in TestFlight”

Step 5: Accept the invitation

This time TestFlight opens instead pf Safari.

The app to be tested should be showing. (See image below)

Tap “Accept”

In TestFlight: Accept the invitation to test the app

Step 6: Open the app

Once the app has been downloaded and installed on your device,

Tap “Open” to run the app.

In TestFlight: opening the app for the first time

The app should start running, and now you are an official tester for the developer.
